[ Honoring Brock ]

Day by day I'm still completely amazed at how amazing Brock was (I'm really struggling with saying "was" and not "is"). Not only that but how amazing all of his friends are. To be completely honest I'm really not even sure how this came to be but Friday night at the H & R Hockey Facility in Pocatello, ID there was a skateboarding competition held in Brock's honor. The message of the night was "Shred for Brock Cherry," where all proceeds from the entrance fee, raffles, and donations are going to go towards a new C-ledge (a ramp) to be put in at the Pocatello Skate Park with a dedicatory plaque in Brock's name. There was an article in the Bannock Alternative found here about Brock and the competition. I couldn't help but tear up when I read it.

I couldn't believe how many competitors and friends showed up for this event. Half of which were wearing a shirt with either Brock's picture or one of his designs or even his poem on it. The facility wasn't even that big but somehow it all worked out great and everyone was there for one reason: to Shred for Brock Cherry. I'd say close to a hundred skateboarders showed up with nearly that many actually competing. My mom and I wore our jackets too...

Brad Beech, a local skateboarder/pro skateboarder began this whole event and quickly got some great sponsors for the competition, including Mttheory, a company Brock designed a t-shirt for. Most of his family was even involved with it. His wife handled the raffle, he took control of the competition itself, while one of his kids even competed. I was amazed. My family and I thank you Brad Beech!

I am truly in complete and utter awe at how caring people are. Everyone that helped in any way with the funeral (financially and physically helping) to making it possible for my mom to receive Brock's diploma at graduation to this skate competition is so wonderful and couldn't be more appreciated. Seriously it is such a comfort to know that there are people out there that will literally drop everything they're doing and even push some other responsibilities aside to really be there for you when you need it most. Brock had some of the best friends anyone could ever ask for. Thank you all!

I had a wedding reception to be at before the competition so my mom and grandpa picked me up on their way and we all went to the competition together. I couldn't stay for very long because of a big basketball tournament I went to in Soda Springs for Macie (that'll be a later post) but what I saw while I was there was very touching. I'm so glad I was able to go to at least part of it. It was great to see all these local kids come together and do something that Brock loved above everything else in this world. It was sad not seeing him with all his friends skating but I know he was looking down cheering everyone on and even thinking to himself, "I'm gonna try that" if he saw a new trick because he's such a determined kid.

I know you're tearin' it up up there lil' brother! I love you and miss you so much!
